blogger’s quilt festival

I started teaching myself to quilt in  November 2010. I had received a sewing machine for free years ago and finally decided to conquer my fear and find a new passion.

My first big project was a quilt for my mom. She had surgery on her foot in January of 2011. It was the middle of a cold, harsh, Midwest winter and I decided she needed a warm, cozy quilt to snuggle under while her foot healed. I was inspired by Amanda Jean’s Topsy Turvy Quilt.

I set out to my local quilt shop and snagged a layer cake of Java by Moda. Yummy. The coffee theme and rich colors were perfect. They would be the perfect fit for my mothers home and coffee is certainly something we both enjoy.

I had given myself a deadline, so I quickly got to work on this Topsy Turvy work of art. It took two weeks to start and finish, but I love the final result:

My mom absolutely loved it. It is a favorite to snuggle under by all who visit her home. Sometimes I think about sneaking it back to my house, but I love my mom so I think I will let her keep it! 🙂
